Health Care Reform

Jun 26 2009

I am deep in the middle of health care reform in Washington and frustrated with the process here in the Senate. I want health care to be available to all Americans and this recent bill, if enacted, would still leave 30 million Americans uninsured.

I am disappointed that 15 million Americans would lose their current employer-provided health coverage under this bill. Not to mention the price tag of this legislation is estimated at $1 trillion!

The Administration has said "If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period." However, that is not true under this proposed legislation. This bill also creates 51 additional offices, bureaus, commissions, and programs.

I am hoping those on the other side of the aisle start including all Senators as part of this critical health care reform debate. Apparently, they do not want the American people to know their true plans that could lead to the rationing of health care. I do not think shoving a massive health care reform bill through Congress at high-speed is the route to go on such an important issue.

I continue to say "Beware what lurks under the banner of reform!" As a member of both Committees handling health care reform, I am unwavering in my support to provide health care for all Americans but will stop efforts allowing the government to take over health care as they have taken over the banks and the auto industry.
